Students learned how to cook chicken adobo with a boiled egg, chicken tinola (soup), pork lumpia, pancit and more during the Sitka Kitch’s Cooking Around The World class Filipino Cooking With David Felts and Sonia Malabot-Felts on Tuesday, May 14, at the new Sitka Kitch location in the Sitka Lutheran Church. This class was a fundraiser for the Sitka Kitch community rental commercial kitchen.
David and Sonia both work at the University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus, but for several years before moving to Sitka they ran a restaurant in the town of Makati in the Philippines. Over the years, they have hosted Fourth of July and other booths around Sitka.
The next Sitka Kitch class is a special Starting a Cottage Foods Business Class that will take place from noon until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, in Room 106 at the UAS Sitka Campus. The class costs $10 and registration is open. This class will be taught by Sarah Lewis of the Juneau office of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, who will teach through videoconference.
Students who register for this class and then decide to register for the Sitka Farmers Market this summer will receive one-half off their first table fee at the market. Students can register by going to this link, https://sitkakitch.eventsmart.com/events/sitka-kitch-to-host-starting-a-cottage-foods-business-class-june-19-at-uas-sitka-campus/, and paying by PayPal or credit/debit card.
